How blogs can be used in teaching
Blogs are interesting tools that can be used by teachers in order to improve the teaching-learning process. First of all, it calls students' attention because of the different medias that can be shared in the same place. It is a way of complementing the discussions that can not be cover in class.
I found three blogs that are used by teachers:
1. http://profeanaluciaciencias.blogspot.com/
This blog was created by Ana Lucia, a high school teacher in Brazil. She teaches science and use the blog in order to encourage her students to make comments and express their opinions about each lesson. Besides, she also post figures and videos about the subject and the students may clarify their doubts.
2. http://maiseducacaodaemeifmonteirolobato.blogspot.com/
It is a blog of the school Monteiro Lobato, placed in Fortaleza, Brazil. The focus of this blog is more on the parents and teachers. As each grade has its own blog, this one brings issues related to the school as whole. In other word, the parents can find information about what is happening in the school and the teachers can share experiences as well.
3. http://nossoslugaresnomundo.blogspot.com/
The third one was created through the project that I belong to. We developed activities with children of 5th grade in Brazil and 2 young Americans students. Each week, the Americans shared some cultural aspect of their country and the Brazilians told them something related to Brazilian culture. After that, we posted the activities in the blog and the kids made comments.
It was a way to keep the students informed about other culture and use technology to achieve that purpose.
